Candice Gilmer’s celestial author portrait

The woman behind the worlds

Hi, I’m
Candice.

It took getting grounded for Candice Gilmer to realize her imagination was much more interesting than the real world. Stuck at home over grades in high school, she started writing her own stories — and she never stopped.

She published her first book, Fantasy Girl, in 2008. Since then, the USA Today and New York Times bestselling author has published 50+ romances about werewolves and vampires, cyborgs and sexy aliens, demons and fairy tale princesses — a range as wide as her proudly geeky heart. She's a devoted fan of Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, and DC (yes, you really can love them all), and Captain America will always hold the top spot.

Her muse is very insistent and never runs out of ideas.

Candice stays busy, and she wouldn't have it any other way.

Well. Maybe with a personal chef on staff.

Here’s to finding your next happily ever after.

Writing and publishing since 2008

My Author Journey

  1. 2008

    My first published book

Published my first book, Fantasy Girl, with Samhain Publishing

  2. 2009

    Entering the Mythical Knights world

Published my first book with Lyrical Press, Unholy Night, my first foray into my Mythical Knights world. It was later reworked and rebranded as Dark Within.

  3. 2010-13

    Writing with two publishers

Split time publishing between Samhain Publishing and Lyrical Press

  4. 2014

    Hitting the bestseller lists

The Taming the Alpha boxed set, which included my story His Velvet Touch, hit the USA Today list at #41 and the New York Times bestseller list at #8 on December 9, 2014.

  5. 2015

    My first fully indie book

Summer Burns, book one in the Celestial Springs Salon series, was my first fully independent project.

In September, I released Brightest Shadow as a prequel to Dark Within, which also released with Samhain Publishing that year.

The Taming the Monster anthology, which included Guarding Her Secret, hit the USA Today list at #91 on October 13, 2015.

A Very Alpha Christmas, which included Not A Gentleman’s Christmas, hit the USA Today list at #40 on November 17, 2015.

  6. 2016

    Building connected series

In February, I released Bravest Flame as an “in-between” book between Dark Within and Darker Cravings, while those books were still with Samhain Publishing.

After getting Guarding Her Secret back from its 2015 anthology, I released it on its own that February.

In September, I released Out of the Tower.

  7. 2017

    Getting my books back

This was a big year. Samhain Publishing closed, and I got all my books back.

I republished Dark Within, Darker Cravings, and Darkest Judgment, reorganizing the Mythical Knights series into its proper reading order with matching covers.

I released the Guys and Godmothers books—The Magic Under His Nose, Magic Right Before His Eyes, and Magic That’s Just His Taste—and Saving Her Destiny, all with new covers.

I also released Slipping Away, the second Charming Fairy Tales book, and republished my contemporary romances Fantasy Girl and Mission of Christmas.

  8. 2018

    More fairy tales

I released Ending the Curse, the third Charming Fairy Tales book, and re-edited and released The Reluctant Prince.

  9. 2019

Vampires and a return to the salon

I released Vampires Don’t Babysit and a rewritten edition of Autumn Falls, the contemporary romance that follows Summer Burns.

  10. 2020

Two finales and a new direction

I finished the Vampire Mythicals series with Vampires Don’t Protect, Vampires Don’t Date the Boss, and Vampires Don’t Fall in Love.

I also completed the Celestial Springs Salon series with Winter Chills.

Then I was ready to try something different. I stepped into sci-fi romance by writing The Temptress’s Cyborg.

  11. 2021

    Nine books in one year

In the midst of COVID, I released more books than I ever had in a single year -- 9. Can't Remember Dick, The Galactic Storm series: Temptress's Cyborg, Lady's Cyborg, Mistress's Cyborg, Virgin's Cyborg and Princess's Cyborg. Then I released my first 3 Intergalactic Dating Agency books, Slammer, Hard Time, and Solitary.

    That was a big year.

  12. 2022

    A year of recovery

Spent a lot of this year recovering. Released Alien Need. I attempted to repeat my success with the cyborg series, but I just wasn't able to keep up with the writing after the difficulties the previous year.

Instead, I took my second dip into the Intergalactic Dating Agency pool, but was only able to release 2 of my scheduled 3, Core and Shaft.

  13. 2023

    Teaching and a new release

Not a great year for me. Had a lot of issues with writing and focus and finding my passion. Spent a lot of time working on my mental health.

However, I did teach my first writing classes at Romancelahoma, in Oklahoma City, OK, and the classes were very well received.

Focused on moving to a Shopify store, and doing a lot of admin things I've been neglecting. (Procrastinating. We can say it together...)

I did, with the help of a great friend, manage to get Claim, the third of the IDA done and released.

  14. 2024

    New covers and new stories

More of a study and self-discovery year. I did a lot of book recovering and updating.

I was in a couple of anthologies, including Beyond Earth, where I released Cyborg Unclaimed.

I did release Savior, a new Intergalactic Dating Agency book.

  15. 2025

    A fresh start

I didn’t publish a single book in 2025, and not for lack of trying. What I did do was rebrand Candice Gilmer, complete with the moon and stars. After all these years in this business, I finally saw what my books had always been about: fated mates, and the people who belong together. So I leaned in, across my sci-fi and paranormal romance.

Most of that year, my corporate tech job drained everything I had. In October, I walked away and went back to being a hairdresser. Once the stress let go, my brain started to unlock, and slowly, the stories started flowing again.

  16. 2026

    The stories pour out

Oh my God, did the stories pour out of me this year.

It started with two anthologies: Believer’s Bar in Feeling Sassy, and Rescued in the Tour of Duty anthology. Both are the first glimpse of a brand-new universe, with more coming soon.

I updated and expanded Cyborg Unclaimed and turned it into a trilogy. Beast Unbound, a book I’d written years ago and never finished, finally got its ending, and Heart Unlocked closed out the series.

Three shorts I’d started long ago came together into the Fated Stars series: Below the Current, Beneath the Storm, and Beyond the Black.

I FINALLY finished Alien Want, followed by Alien Burn in the Kantenans series. The Intergalactic Dating Agency grew with Valor, Ward, and Crown. And Caught, a newsletter freebie I’d been working on for years, is finally done.

Then came something new: Season’s Summonings, my holiday demon series, with A Demon for Christmas and A Demon for New Year’s.
